Thermage® - FAQ

Tissue Tightening with the Thermage® Procedure

How does it work?
The radiofrequency (RF) energy uniformly heats the dermis while cooling and protecting the epidermis. It is designed to cause immediate collagen contraction followed by new collagen production which occurs over a period of time.  The Thermage® procedure is the only non-invasive method to tighten loose skin.

How does Thermage® change your skin?

Skin Before

Skin After

This picture of skin (before) depicts decreased collagen density and a thinning epidermis (outer most layer of the skin) which is typical of aging.  Four months after Thermage® there is new and more dense collagen and a measurable increase in the thickness of the epidermis.

What does Thermage® feel like?
For each treatment pulse there is an immediate cooling sensation, followed by a brief hot sensation, followed by another cooling sensation.  Your physician will administer an oral sedative to make the process more comfortable.

How long will the Thermage® procedure take?
Depending on the size of the area treated, the procedure may take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or two. Your physician may require that you arrive about an hour before your procedure for administration of the oral sedative.
